Get to know Roushan

Ph.D., University of Illinois, Chicago (Neal Mankad)

BS, MS, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal, India

Roushan is originally from Mumbai, India. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemistry from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Bhopal, India, where he studied C-H bond activation of isoquinoniles to synthesize pharmaceutically relevant molecules. Roushan completed his Ph.D. in chemistry at University of Illinois Chicago under the supervision of Neal Mankad. His doctoral research centered on developing radical chemistry involving Al(II) species. By leveraging redox-noninnocent ligands and strained coordination geometries, he explored how biphilic aluminum radicals can be generated and tuned to mimic the reactivity of transition- and f-block metal ions, such as Titanium(III) and Samarium(II).

Outside the laboratory, Roushan enjoys traveling to new places, hiking, cycling, and playing soccer.
