M.Sc, MSU Baroda (S. R. Shah)

B.Sc, Mumbai University

Jagrut is originally from Mumbai, India, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Mumbai and a Master’s from MSU Baroda studying the total synthesis of Shuteria sinensis natural products. Before graduate school, he gained industry experience at BASF synthesizing mesoionic herbicidal scaffolds and later worked on nucleoside modification at the Institute of Chemical Technology.
For his PhD, Jagrut moved to Stony Brook University, working first in the lab of Prof. Ming-Yu Ngai and later with Prof. Jeffrey Lipshultz. His doctoral research spans three modes of photochemical charge-transfer catalysis—MLCT, ILCT, and LMCT—applied to nickel, copper, and titanium systems to develop new methods for constructing pharmaceutically relevant molecules. Outside the lab, Jagrut enjoys going to the beach, hiking, and playing video games.
